But just as he felt the tide was turning, a small boulder - a piece shattered off of a larger one thrown by a giant - crashed into Vord and knocked him unconscious. Vord took up his axe and fought valiantly, as did they all. Though he had not trained much with the militia, all able bodies were needed, for Giants marched upon them that day. One fateful day, Vord joined his fellows at the edge of the village, called by the alarm to defend their home. The fine manual dexterity required in tailoring taught him patience and greater control over his muscles. As such, he was apprenticed to the local tailor, and he learned to sew both clothing and leather armors. His parents insisted he take up a trade, one that would teach him to use other abilities besides his strength. Both weapon and tool, the simplicity and strength of the axe appealed to him.īut his life was not all martial. Pressed to choose a weapon, he gravitated toward the axe - not so much because of the destruction it could wreak, but because of its versatility. Sure enough, he grew into a strapping young Dwarf, and he was soon slated to enter into service in the militia of his small hillside village. Even as a toddler, his natural strength was obvious to all. Vord has always been astoundingly strong.
